TABS DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF FINAL v SHADWELL

Under the somewhat strange surroundings of blue sky and sunshine the top two sides from the North and South divisions battled it out for overall champion at Spofforth CC on Monday night.Winning the toss TABS elected to bat first.Tight bowling kept the run rate down as Mottershead and Palmer tried to build a platform. Palmer was first to fall in the 6th over for 7.Bird was unlucky to fall next for 5 stumped off a wide. The only TABS batsman to reach double figures was Will Bartlett who took the attack to the opposition bowlers and dispatched each in turn to all parts of the ground before being caught on the long on boundary by Harper for 49. Mottershead struggling for form made 8 before being caught in the deep by Harrison.Peterson promoted up the batting order made a quick 9 off 7 balls before sacrificing his wicket on the last ball of the TABS innings, leaving Lindsay undefeated on 7 as TABS reached 100 for 5 off their 20 overs.

Shadwell started confidently but were surprised by the pace of Peterson picking up his first wicket that of the dangerous Lane in his second over for 5 when the score was on 13. The other opening bat Singh was sent back in Petersons third over for 12 not only loosing his middle stump but smashing it in two in the process.21 for 2 and it was no longer the stroll Shadwell were expecting. C Harrison set about accumulating the runs picking off the occasional bad ball and riding his luck with 2 dropped catches went on to make a vital 44 not out as wickets fell at the other end keeping the supporters on the edge of their seats right up to the final over.Needing 4 to win Palmer was given the responsibility but unfortunately went for 4 off his first ball and Shadwell won with 5 balls to spare.A good game of cricket kept in the balance until the end.

Whilst disappointing to lose for a second time to Shadwell who cleaned up all three trophies this year there is always next year! Losing only 2 players from this seasons squad the TABS team can look forward to playing their part in the race for honours in 2008.

Match summary

TABS 100 for 5. ( Bartlett 49)
Shadwell 101 for 5 (Peterson 2 for 17, Bartlett 1 for 15, Mottershead 1 for 25, Watson 1 for 15.)

Well done to all the boys who represented TABS u/17`s this year.Played in a good competitive spirit and commitment throughout the season.

TABS WIN BY ONE RUN IN THRILLER AGAINST BARWICK

Two sides with everything to play for competed in one of the best games of the season. With Barwicks ground declared unplayable at lunch time Simon Bartlett had already started the put contingency plans in motion.Calling on local neighbours Tadcaster who had no home game some first class negotiating with the Tadcaster grounds staff resulted in both teams agreeing to play on neutral ground so the teams could play the the lovely game of cricket!

Loosing the toss has now become a habit and on another wet looking wicket where again batting was not going to be easy, TABS were asked to bat first.
Every run was going to be precious and good running between the wickets was demonstrated by each of the TABS batsmen in turn.An opening stand of 20 in 6 overs between Bird and Mottershead got TABS off to a solid start before Bird (12) was tempted by a long hop from Betterson only to misshit to mid wicket and the catch was taken by Ford.Palmer strode confidently out to the wicket going on to score a valuable 11 after surviving a dropped catch before he had got off the mark.Man of the moment Almond joined Mottershead in the middle with the score on 46 in the 12th over. Time to accelerate and Almond came up trumps, playing some delightful wristy shots as well as some well placed fours finding the few gaps left on this large outfield. Mottershead (28) was given run out, one of 3 to fall in this fashion in the chase of quick runs at the death.Bartlett coming in at 5 provided the necessary lift and hit two boundaries in his quick fire 10 before holing out to a good catch by Sheldon at deep long on . Wrench grabbed a quick 3 before sacrificing his wicket on the last ball going for a third run as the Barwick fielders were put under pressure.Almond carried his bat for another valuable 36 not out as TABS posted a challenging 113 to win.

Watson, back fresh from a weeks holiday bowled his first 3 overs for only 5 runs and supported by Will Bartlett with 7 off his first 3 over spell TABS has put on the squeeze that was in the end going to prove vital. The first 10 overs yielded only 25 runs as both batsmen found scoring runs difficult against good line and length bowling with the help of a little movement off the wicket. The fielding was an improvement over previous weeks with captain Bird leading by example in the deep. Mottershead and Lindsey took over and kept it tight before Palmer came on at the football end and had Wood bowled for 21 looking to force the pace.Within 4 runs Langley(22) was back in the pavilion run out. The big hitting Betterson was joined by Nicholls who moved the score on swiftly before Betterson(23) became Palmers second victim with the Barwick score on 82.The dangerous Nicholls was joined by Ford, the latter being run out for 4, leaving Nicholls to score 9 off the last over facing Bartlett. Picking up 2 off the second ball of the over, Bartlett found the perfect reply with his third delivery knocking back middle stump.A single and two 2`s brought the Barwick score up to 111 and TABS were home with one run to spare in a thrilling game between two competitive sides.

Thanks to all concerned,Tadcater for agreeing to host the game and Barwick for agreeing to play.As a result of this victory TABS have to win at Garforth next Monday to clinch the North Division title which will set up a final playoff with Shadwell who look like winning the south Division.

Shadwell just too strong for unlucky TABS!

Gracious in defeat.TABS took on Shadwell in the final of the Nicholas Priestly at Bardsey CC on Thursday night. Fortunate to get the game in without interruption from the weather as thunder clouds moved around in the distance,TABS could have done with some divine intervention as they failed to live up to earlier season promise by falling short in the run chase by 27 runs.

Electing to bat first Shadwell set about their task with composure with prolific batsman G. Lane leading the way with a man of the match performance reaching his 50 with a glorious 6 over mid off. Earlier Sam Mottershead had Ford c & b for 15. Denied of Peterson, Wilson, Palmer and Watson bowling options were limited.Spin seemed to be the order of the day with Hume chipping in with 3 for 23 from his 4 overs, Lindsey(1for 29) and Mottershead (1 for 16).Will Bartlett came back at the death to claim the wicket of Whitely finishing with respectable figures of 1 for 20 of his four overs. The other bowlers used were Loynes in his final game of the season (0 for 20) and a rare appearance with the ball from Bird (0 for 18). Orton (24) was the other main run contributor for Shadwell, as their innings close at 130 for 6.After fielding, the target was 131 runs to win!

Set a challenging but not daunting target of 6.5 an over it would have required one of the early batsmen to come to the party.Unfortunately short of cricket and down in confidence after their loss earlier in the week TABS wickets fell at regular intervals. Bird(7) got an inside edge and played on from outside the off stump and Motterhead (8) had an uncharacteristic rare rush of blood and played over a full length ball from Moody. Dom Wrench(1) was one of 2 wickets from Jack Burke. Will Bartlett(12) and Richard Lindsey(5) helped to steady the ship before the latter was called through for a run that wasn't quite there and the 4th wicket was gone for 39. Enter Rob Almond to the fray.Having already raised heart beats by being dropped off at the wrong ground and having to be picked up just in time for the start of the match, the scene was set for a cavalier innings to salvage some pride for the TABS side. The support for the final was excellent! However on reaching 32 opening bowler Joe Burke was brought back into the attack and picked up the wicket of Almond caught Lane.Loynes chipped in with 7, Hume (6 )and 2 more from Coldwell, TABS were 9 wickets down at the end for 103 runs.

Congratulations to Shadwell who have made the Nicholas Priestly Trophy their own over the last 6 years.

TABS will loose only 2 of their present u/17 squad for next season and with a bit more experience will be back again to challenge for silverware.

The next game is on Monday.A critical top of the league clash with rivals Barwick.Meet 6pm at their ground.

Ledsham gain revenge for Cup defeat

Scoring runs in the league against Ledsham this year has proved to be difficult!
Mondays night was no exception.Restricted to their lowest score of the season and indeed their worst performance with the bat throughout their playing career at TABS the u/17`s fell to only their second defeat
Loosing the important toss and put into bat the TABS batsmen were unable to adapt to the slow wicket following the last 3 weeks of rain.Only Bird (17) and Lindsey(10) managed to get into double figures. The bowlers kept a good line and length and with poor shot selection and good support from the fielders TABS fell to a disappointing 50 all out with 3 overs to spare.
All the bowlers picked up wickets with Margiotta finishing with 3 for 24 and both Rotha and Wright took 3 for 2 from their 4 overs.
Released from the pressure of chasing down a big score Ledsham lead by A. Kelly (23) knocked off the required runs with the loss of 5 wickets with both Palmer and Lindsey picking up 2 wickets a piece.
The boys will now need to pick themselves up for the cup final game on Thursday, having been rearranged from last week due to the weather.

Caribbean v TABS - Monday 2nd July

TABS 17`s travelled to the Caribbean on Monday in the hope that the sun and drying winds had done enough to enable the game to be played. After the weekend downpour the wicket and outfield would be slow and runs at a premium.
Electing to bat the Caribbean openers made a cautious start taking 20 off the opening 6 overs shared by Bartlett and Loynes.A change of bowler and flight given by Mottershead brought about the fall of the first wicket with Aktar deceived by the pace being caught and bowled for 6.Caldwell replaced Loynes at the bottom end bowling up into a light breeze with some medium paced drift accounting for the dangerous Hussain (Q) bowled for 24. Mottershead was dazzling at the other end taking 2 in 2 balls before going on to complete his spell of 4 overs taking 4 wickets for only 3 runs.Lindsey kept up the pressure in support taking 3 for 6 before Hume had Raza stumped by debutant keeper Ollie Cracknell who acquitted himself very well at the higher level conceding only one bye behind the stumps. The innings closed in the last over with the last man run out with the score on 58.

Ever watchful of the circling thunder clouds TABS in reply got off to the worst possible start when Mottershead was given out LBW in Aktars (M) first over before a run was on the board. Bird was joined by Bartlett to the enthusiastic welcome given by the fielding side. Enlightened by the pace of Aktar extracting life out of this wet wicket, the batsmen had to concentrate on their own game. Unfortunately after playing a good cover drive Bartlett was caught short of the crease coming back for a second run.As the rain started to fall Hume was the third wicket to fall, this time to Z Aktar, leaving Bird not out 10 as the umpires decided that conditions were getting too bad for play to continue.

Evenly balanced in what was going to be a low scoring match, both sides claimed the moral victory!

Match Summary

Caribbean 58 all out (Q. Hussain 24, Motterhead 3 for 4, Lindsey 3for 6)
TABS 14 for 3
RAIN STOPPED PLAY.

TABS play the final of the Nicholas Priestly Trophy on Thursday against favourites Shadwell who will be looking to pick up the Trophy they have claimed there own winning 4 out of the last 6 finals.

TABS game on Monday night was cancelled due to the weather.

Next weeks game is away at Caribbean meet at their ground 6pm for a 6.30 start.

TABS u/17`s reach final of Nicholas Priestly Trophy.

TABS played host to Ledsham on Thursday night, the only side to have beaten them so far this season, in the semi final of the Nicholas Priestly Trophy. Winning the toss and electing to put the opposition in to bat, the TABS bowlers struggled to find early rhythm. Peterson was pulled out of the attack after only 2 overs with a troublesome back and whist not conceding many runs it took until the eleventh over before the first wicket was taken thanks to a caught and bowled by Wilson.Earlier chances had been spilled as the Ledsham openers both moved on to score 24 a piece.Lindsey bowled a tight spell of 3 for 11 when it mattered with Mottershead and Wilson `s second accounting for the 6 wickets to fall out of a target total of 105
Mottershead and Bird opened the innings for TABS being watchful at first before Bird found his range and quickly moved on to 50 retired incl three 6`s and five 4`s.
Mottershead was joined by Will Bartlett and between them moved the score nearer to the required target. Mottershead was the only wicket to fall being caught and bowled by A. Kelly for 15, leaving Bartlett(27 not out) and Palmer(7 not out) to see TABS home by 9 wickets with 3 overs to spare.

Match Summary

Ledsham 105 for 6 (M Curtis 24, A.Kelly 24) (R. Lindsey 3 for 11, T. Wilson 2 for 20, S. Mottershead 1 for 24)
TABS 108 for 1 (A Bird 50 retired, Will Bartlett 27 not out, S Mottershead 15.)

TABS won by 9 wickets.

Amaranth v TABS 18/06/07

An unfamiliar batting order to allow players not usually given the opportunity to bat was met with a disappointing reaction from some of the players who should know better. The joys of management!!!
Resigned to having to accept the order of the day the TABS batsmen set about their task with Richard Lindsey and Rob Almond making the most of some early misfielding and dropped chances to push the score on to 68 before Lindsey fell to a catch behind for 20.Joe Smith making a rare appearance at the crease this season unfortunately fell for 0 caught at mid off with only 1 more run added to the score. With a slow wicket many of the shots were uppish and 6 batsmen were caught as the fielding improved Shaw being the best of the bowlers taking 4 for 30 of his 4 overs. Almond was one of his victims going for another big hit caught for 38.Contributions came from Bird(11), Loynes (11), Peterson (13) and Mottershead 27 not out. The innings was closed an over short on 145 for 9 with the sight of heavy rain clouds closing in.

A quick turn a round and a sporting Amaranth team completed the rest of the game "under the threat of heavy rain". Loynes thrived in the conditions being almost unplayable taking excellent figures of 5 for 4 from 4 overs.Palmer was economical with 1 for 8, Lindsey 1 for 3 amd Mottershead took 2 without conceding a run to wrap up the innings inside 12 overs for 24 runs.

Match Summary

TABS 145 for 9 off 19 movers declared. (Lindsey 20, Almond 38, Mottershead 27 not out Shaw 4 for 30.)

Amaranth 24 all out ( Loynes 5 for 4)

TABS won by 121 runs.

Thursday evening TABS take on Leadsham at home in the Nicholas Priestly Trophy. Meet at TABS 5.55pm for a 6.30 start.

TABS v Tadcaster 11/06/07

A near full strength TABS side took on local rivals Tadcaster on a sun drenched evening at Thorp Arch.Winning the toss Wilson had no hesitation in taking first knock on a splendid track prepared by our groundsman!
Despite loosing Wrench for 2 the TABS batsmen had few difficulties reaching their highest total of the season with Sam Mottershead (50) and Will Bartlett(53) both retiring leaving Alex Bird (coming in at 5) 9 not out and Tom Wilson doing his averages no harm at all 1 not out.Palmer (8) was the only other batsman to get to the crease as TABS concluded their innings on 144 for 2.

In reply only Smith(47) made any notable resistance and the last 7 Tadcaster wickets fell for only 19 runs to the spin of Lindsey (3) and Hume (3).The Tadcaster innings was completed in the last over all out for 92, leaving TABS victorious by 52 runs.
Players and spectators were then treated to a generous helping of sticky toffee pudding courtesy of our resident chef Mark Mottershead.Thank you Mark from us all.

Match Summary

TABS 144 for 2
Sam Mottershead 50 retired, Will Bartlett 52 retired,

TADCASTER 92 all out
P Smith 47, Peterson 2 for 5, Lindsey 3 for 15, Hume 3 for 2.

Next game away to Amaranth meet at their ground at 6pm.

This is then followed by the semi final of the Nicholas Priestly Trophy v Ledsham at home on Thursday 21st June.

Garforth v TABS 04/06/07

Despite the unavailability of 6 regular first choice players studying hard for their GCSE exams (good luck boys) TABS 17`s took on Garforth at home and provided the opportunity for some of the u/15`s to step up a level.

With little information coming in from the co coordinators we didn't know how strong Garforth would be. A late scare held up proceedings waiting for opening bowler Peterson to travel the short distance from his home village via Oulton (Sorry Hugo 3 days early, we don't play the Cup game until Thursday!!)

Loosing the toss Garforth elected to bat. Loynes opened the attack for TABS with a few loose deliveries stretching Wrench to the limit behind the wickets.Mottershead opening in support went for 17 in his first 2 over before Peterson came on first change. Much of the same as edges came thick and fast Hugo upset at going for 13 in his first over. Scott in particular looked well at ease at one end and the score rattled on to 46 after only 7 overs aided by a fast outfield.

Wilson made the breakthrough in his first over bowling Fisher for 19, followed shortly after by Scott bowled Peterson also for 19, leaving the visitors 62 for 2.
From the remaining batsmen only Soly(16) made double figures as Garforth were all out in the 18th over for 96. Wickets were shared between all 5 TABS bowlers, Loynes 1 for 13, Mottershead 2 for 18, Peterson 3 for 21, Wilson 2 for 14, Palmer 2 for 17.The fielding point went to Tom Coldwell making his debut this season for the 17`s who patrolled the boundary well, taking a good catch off Wilson to dismiss Ross for 1.

A reshuffle of the batting order gave 2 of the young guns the chance to impress. Opening with Mottershead was Captain Wilson who missed out on the runs again miss timing a pull shot and holing out at mid on for 0.Not the start TABS would have wanted. Dom Wrench joined Sam at the crease and was off the mark with a lovely cut shot for 3 which helped settle any nerves. Both batsmen batted sensibly picking out the bad balls and seeing off the economical Brownbill conceding only 10 from his 4 overs.

On reaching 15 Wrench was the next to fall eying up a big hit over the mid wicket area only to be bowled by one that didint get up.Another of the 15`so came in next, Will Cracknel who has been scoring a feast of runs on a Sunday with his own age group.Unlucky to play on to the spin of Scott for 1.
Mottershead moved on swiftly to retire on 53 leaving Palmer (7 not out) and Peterson (10 not out) to score the winning runs with 3 overs to spare.Scott was the pick of the Garforth bowlers taking 2 for 18 off his 4 overs.

TABS 101 for 3 win by 7 wickets.
Garforth 96 all out.

Next game is the Nicholas Priestly Cup v Oulton. PLEASE note this fixture is now being played at home on Thursday 7th July. Meet at TABS 6pm

TABS v Barwick 28/05/07

Despite all the forecast of rain Thorp Arch managed to escape all but a shower in the morning and with a drying northerly wind the ground was in good shaped to host local rivals Barwick. With the unavailability of Richard Lindsey(Headingley) Hugo Peterson(Twickenham) and Vivian(AWL) there was a return to the fold of Joe Watson, Rob Almond and Dominic Wrench(stepping in at the last minute and putting in a solid performance behind the stumps, well done Dom).

Winning the toss Captain Wilson elected to field first. Will Bartlett kept a good line and length in his opening 3 overs conceding only 2 runs before coming back at the death and picking up 2 wickets. Tom Wilson struck the early blow with the wicket of Langley with his first delivery. Hume taking a good catch at first slip.Game on.
Run scoring was made difficult with some good accurate bowling and tight fielding in the first 15 overs. The hard hitting Bettison always remained a threat striking some lusty blows on his way to 50 retired.Loynes picked up the second wicket to fall that of the patient Wood attempting a cut shot only to be snapped up by the ever watchful Almond.Barwick began to throw everything at it in the last 5 overs . Ford looking dangerous before holing out to Wilson at deep backward square. But with the retiring of Bettison the innings lost any momentum with Bartlett coming back to steady the ship and restrict Barwick to 102 for 5 in there 20 overs.

All was set up for an excellent opening stand between Sam Mottershead and Alex Bird.Working the ball into the gaps left by the missing 2 Barwick fielders and the odd straight driven boundary for 4 quickly got the score board moving at around 8 an over for the first 8 overs.A near faultless innings from Alex Bird ending in a glorious 6 over the roof tops into the Park retiring on 52 in the 9th over provided the platform. Sam Mottershead guided the TABS side home with an unbeaten 34 (also finishing in style with a 6 of his own) with Simon Palmer 5 not out.

Bouncing back from last weeks disappointment at Leadsham a resounding 10 wicket win sets up a possible title decider back at Barwick later in the season.

Summary

Barwick 102-5 (Bartlett 2 for 6, Wilson 1 for 11, Loynes 1 for 11, Watson 1 for 28.)
TABS 108 without loss.(Alex Bird 52 retired, Sam Mottershead 34no, Palmer 5 no)

TABS win by 10 wickets.

Next game at home to Garforth Monday 4th June meet 6pm

Tadcaster v TABS (cup) 24/05/07

After the disappointment of Monday it was good to see a nice track at Tadcaster who were the opposition in the first round of the Nicholas Priestly Trophy.Winning the toss and electing to bat TABS got off to a cautious start to some tight early bowling from Steve Hoather (1 for 17) and Naneen Shefta (1 for 6 off 4 overs). Alex Bird fell for 1 to an excellent ball from Hoather in his second over but Sam Mottershead anchored one end retiring eventually for a well paced 50. Simon Palmer struggled to find his touch but riding his luck struck out in frustration to add 21 valuable runs before being bowled by Teckwyn. Will Bartlett joined Mottershead at the crease and started where he had finished off earlier in the season when the two teams met in the league, stocking the ball into the gaps. The slow outfield ensured plenty of running between the wickets to keep the scoreboard ticking over. With Mottershead retiring in came captain Tom Wilson who quickly left without troubling the scorer, leaving Nick Hume (2 not out) to see out the overs with Bartlett (31 not out). Setting a final score of 119 for 3 off their 20 overs.

Tadcaster were quickly in trouble with the hostile young Peterson trapping opening batsman Shaw before a run had been scored.Supported by elder statesman Bartlett from the bowling club end a short pitched delivery that fooled the batsmen and was bowled for 1 left Tadcaster reeling at 2 for 5. When the Peterson struck again in his third over taking the key wicket of Hoather for 7 Tadcaster had little else to offer but for a spirited knock of 26 from Shefta. The bowling was shared around between 8 players with Joe Smith taking the final wicket with the help of a fine catch running backwards from Josh Vivian who picked up the TABS fielding point. The Tadcaster innings ended on 59 leaving TABS convincing winners by 60 runs.

A fine all round effort by the TABS team sets them up well for the next crunch league game against arch rivals Barwick on Bank Holiday Monday meet 6pm for a home game.

TABS v Ledsham 21/05/07

Batting first on a very green and soft wicket run getting was never going to be easy. And so it proved. In a low scoring match were both sides struggled with the uneven bounce only Sam Mottershead was able to craft out any kind of score falling to Kelly for 33 runs.Tom Wilson chipped in with 12 and Hugo Peterson (12) struck some lusty blows at the end as TABS were all out in the last over for 74 runs. T. Margiotta finishing on 3 for 25.

In the field the TABS boys bowled well enough but we were always going to be short of runs to defend. Although the game swung first one way then the other.Tom Loynes promoted to opening the bowling (with Will Bartlett nursing sore Achilles standing in for the missing Alex Bird behind the stumps) , stood up to the challenge knocking back the stumps of the first 2 Ledsham batsmen in his first over. When he took his third wicket in his next over anything looked possible. A tidy spell from Hugo of 1 for 8 from 4 overs kept things tight, supported by Mottershead 3 for 20 and Lindsey 2 for 8. Unfortunately 2 lusty blows for 6 from A Brown (26) in the 14 th over broke the squeeze that had been applied and with the last 2 batsmen at the crease Ledsham hit the winning runs to win in a tight contest.

Disappointing but out of adversity the stars of tomorrow will rise.Tadcaster in the Nicholas Priestly Cup on Thursday watch out!

TABS v CARIBBEAN - 14th May 2007

After a weekend of abandoned cricket travelling round east and west Yorkshire the weather broke to provide a very pleasant evening as the u/17`s played host to a Caribbean side. Directed by our new "temporary" groundsman (but out of the same school as all other groundsmen looking after the long term interest of the wicket! ) we were consigned to the artificial wicket.
Losing the toss Caribbean put themselves in to bat. Striking the ball very well from the first over Will Batlett came in for some punishment going for 32 in an opening spell of 3 overs but picking up the important wicket of M. Aktar lbw for 26. Hugo Peterson bowled with real venom and was unlucky not to take a wicket from his 4 overs. Richard Lindsey bowled a very tidy spell conceding only 7 runs of his 4 overs and picking up 2 wickets. After a promising start by the visitors the run rate was pegged back by some tight bowling and good support fielding.Sam Mottershead picking up 2 for 21 and Simon Palmer 3 for 1 off 2 overs. Nick Hume picked up the last wicket as the last 6 batsmen fell for only 6 runs setting a modest target of 84 to win.
TABS opening pairing of Sam Mottershead and Alex Bird set about reducing the arrears and despite some uneven bounce put on 24 before Bird was bowled to a ball that failed to get up for 12. Palmer fell lbw for4 allowing the in form Hume to demonstrate some interesting stoke play, putting on 30 for the 3rd wicket before holing out to Aktar off the bowling of S. Hussain for 19. Will Bartlett joined Mottershead at the crease and between them saw TABS home with 3 overs to spare. Sam finishing on a well crafted 40 not out and Will Bartlett 12 not out.
TABS won by 7 wickets.

Next weeks Monday game is against Ledsham followed by the first round of the Nicholas Priestly Cup on Thursday 24th v Tadcaster (both games away)

Kippax v TABS 07/05/07

Winning the toss TABS elected to bat first on a cold bright evening.Mottershead was the first to fall getting a top edge behind to the wicket keeper which brought Palmer to the crease to join Bird. With Bird quickly into his stride the "scoreboard"(there wasn't one!!) rattled along and Bird retired on 50 including 5 6`s and 4 4`s within 10 overs with the score on 90 for1. Then followed a collapse at the hands of the excellent young bowler Zack Wheatley who within his four overs made batting look decidedly difficult returning figures of 4 overs 1 maiden 6 for 5 runs. The TABS innings closed on a respectable 146 all out but promised so much more.Palmer made 23, Hume a dogged 20 and Lindley on 10 being the only other batsman in double figures.

Regrouping at the half way stage a professional looking TABS side took to the field. The opening pace attack of Bartlett and Peterson ripped through the top 4 batsmen and the game was almost over as a contest. Some excellent fielding and chasing was applauded by the opposition players. 4 good catches 2 by captain Wilson earning him the fielding point by the opposing team umpire. All the wickets we shared by 7 bowlers and the Kippax innings ended on 71 all out within 17 overs.

Next weeks game is at home to the Caribbean meet at the ground 6pm.

TABS v Amaranth 30/04/07

Unfortunately Monday`s second league game for the u/17`s against Amaranth was cancelled with the opposition failing to raise a side.Follifoot came to the rescue and agreed to travel to thorp Arch for an 18 overs a piece friendly. Winning the toss and batting first Bird & Mottershead set up an opening stand 92 before both retired with Sam 38 and Alex 34. Hume the chipped in with 17 and Loynes 11 setting a target of 133 to win.
However tight bowling from all 10 bowlers used restricted the opposition to 68 for 9 in their 18 overs.Meeson taking 3 for 2 with the rest of the wkts shared between 5 bowlers.
Thankyou to a young Follifoot side who showed great spirit in defeat.

TABS v Tadcaster 23/04/07

TABS Under 17`s kick started their season with a win over local rivals Tadcaster. On a dark evening Tadcaster won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite some tight bowling early on by Will Bartlett, Tadcaster amassed 98 for the loss of only 1 wicket in their allotted 16 overs. Hugo Peterson bowled the Tadcaster opening bat S. Hoather for a creditable 47 in his last over.

In reply both TABS openers Sam Mottershead and Alex Bird went cheaply but, sensible batting in the descending gloom by Simon Palmer (23) and Will Bartlett (38 not out) saw TABS home with 3 overs to spare.

On Sunday the 17`s take on a TABS 3rd team in a "friendly" as the club continues to prepare for the new season.
